Lazaros and Chrysoula are Greek and live in Canada!

Fantastic couple, excellent personalities and their wedding reflected their sense of humour, enjoyment, “going with the flow” and easy going manners and attitude!

Their guests where exactly the same…just fantastic people!

I keep on ending every sentence using the exclamation point but what can I do? I need to emphasise the quality of these people 🙂

Anyway, the wedding took place at Monemvasia one of the landmarks at Peloponnesos.

Monemvasia is always regarded as one of the best destinations to get married in Greece.

Of course, weddings at Monemvasia are totally different than the weddings at the Greek islands….Santorini for example.

The landscape is different, the light is different, the aesthetics, the climate…the vibes in general differ!

This is noticeable also to the wedding photographs as well!

Adjusting at a wedding days needs

As a destination wedding photographer I try to adjust to the environment as well and my wedding photography, although having my own style, differs depending on the place and the circumstances I am called to photograph. One of the factors is the people that trust me for being their wedding photographer, their style and characters (and I have told you already about Lazaros and Chrysoula 🙂 and the other main factor is the environment, the landscape.

Peloponnesos landscape is remarkable as well, dry and hot but at the same time has some amazing and picturesque places such as Monemvasia…an old castle build at the age of a huge rock which is noticeable only from the sea!

It is easy to feel as if you are participating at an episode of “the game of thrones” series when you are inside Monemvasia castle.

Actually it was initially the first choice of the “game of thrones” producers to film the series there.

Hotel Lazareto is situated at the edge of Monemvasia huge rock and this places was the lucky one to host this beautiful wedding.

The only problem that we faced was the time pressure as there was unfortunately no time at all to have a “wedding portraits” photo session of the lovely couple.

We just had a few photographs shoot while heading back to the hotel after the ceremony at the church inside the castle.

The party was fabulous! It reminded the celebrations that are taking place at the small Greek villages main squares.

We all kept on dancing and laughing until the early morning hours!

I wish to Lazaro and Chrysoula to stay as they are for the rest of their lives….Lazare and Chrysoula….ALL THE VERY BEST!!

A few words about Monemvasia

Monemvasia (Greek: Μονεμβασία) is a town and a municipality in Laconia, Greece. The town is located on a small island off the east coast of the Peloponnese. The island is linked to the mainland by a short causeway 200m in length. Its area consists mostly of a large plateau some 100 metres above sea level, up to 300 m wide and 1 km long, the site of a powerful medieval fortress. The town walls and many Byzantine churches remain from the medieval period. The seat of the municipality is the town Molaoi.[2]

The town’s name derives from two Greek words, mone and emvasia, meaning “single entrance”. Its Italian form, Malvasia, gave its name to Malmsey wine. Monemvasia’s nickname is the Gibraltar of the East or The Rock.

Geography

The island of Monemvasia was separated from the mainland by an earthquake in 375 AD. The majority of the island’s area is a plateau about 100 metres above sea level, and the town of the same name is built on the slope to the south-east of the rock, overlooking Palaia Monemvasia bay. Many of the streets are narrow and fit only for pedestrian and donkey traffic. A small hamlet of about 10 houses lies to the northwest.

The town today

In 1971, Monemvasia became linked with the rest of the outside world through a bridge on the western side that connects to GR-86.

In more recent history, the town has seen a resurgence in importance with increasing numbers of tourists visiting the site and the region. The medieval buildings have been restored, and many of them converted to hotels.

For the past few years, on July 23, an independence day celebration has been held in the main port. Speeches are made and the story of Tzannetakis Grigorakis, and his men, is recounted in both Greek and English. Inhabitants and visitors can gather to watch as a ship, built every year, is filled with pyrotechnics and set on fire.[5]

The 1987 horror movie The Wind was filmed here.
